This tutorial is intended for Windows users who have not previously used PGP, and therefore will need to download, install and configure the software, and generate a keypair. The tutorial screenshots were created while installing PGP Freeware 7.0.3 on a PC running WinME. We expect that there should be enough similarities for this document to be useful to those installing other recent versions (6.x or newer) on machines running any version of Windows. The tutorial is not meant to replace the PGP documentation that comes with the software. It is only intended to help new users get started. We strongly recommend that you read the documentation. Due to the screenshots, this tutorial is graphics-intensive, and may take some time to load if you have a slow internet connection. The download process is really quite simple. Go to http://www.pgpi.org/products/pgp/versions/freeware/ and get the correct version for your operating system. 7.0.3 was the latest WinME version available when this document was written. Save the file somewhere on your computer, making sure that you can locate it after the download is complete. Close any other programs you have open - your email client, web browser, etc. Double-click on the downloaded file to begin the installation process. |
